Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 29, 2007, 4:05 PM
Before you attempt to develop some sort of idea as to what kind of artist I am, know this: I am not a professional photographer nor is it my goal in life to become one, or at least, in the regard where my entire artistic focus remains purely on photography. My interests that pertain to such a glorious hobby have more to do with my studies within college than anything else.

Therefore, the gallery you see before you is more of a venture of photographs that, if at all possible, catalog my interesting and sometimes mundane life.

My other artistic concentration (graphic design work) can be found here: [link]

Thank you!

You made an account specifically for photography, and regardless that you may not want to become a photographer as your goal I'll still view it as your art. Main reason is because it is on a seperate account, obviously you have some sort of pride in the work, not saying pride is a bad thing, but if you think it needs to seperate itself into another account, then to me, I can't say for sure, it has some sort merit to you. As it may not be your intention to become a photographer, perhaps you could have kept it in the scraps section of your original account or in your gallery and state that it wasn't your intention to become a photographer.

Because it is seperated, I'll view it with seperate intentions. To be fair, if it was in your other account I probably wouldn't have viewed it as I did. As unfair as that may sound, it's how I view it and I'm sure I won't be the only one. If the people I watched (all traditional artists) decided to take a photo and show it off, I wouldn't critique them as I would have to their traditional works because it's something that they probably don't do often, or haven't done before. So if I liked the picture, I'd say so, and maybe give a few tips. But otherwise, even if it was bland, I wouldn't say it. I would, however, view it as you mentioned "Casually" because it's not what they are going for, anyway. So it would be a casual look, because out of their work, Photography wouldn't be something they specialized in.

Now, if they went off and created a seperate account, I would view it as it is, a seperate account. To me, if it's important enough to have its own account, then it must hold some valor to the person, even though it isn't part of their life goal, and I'll view it with the same consideration.

Why would I want to spice them up? I'm not a photographer nor am I seeking attention as much as I am simply asking people to casually observe my work. If people want to critisize and or comment on them, that's terrific. If not, then that's fine. Like my journal entry stated, I am not a photographer and it is certainly not my goal in life to become one.

Thanks for the advice though.

I have read your journal, and that still doesn't change my opinion that your pictures lack any imagination, composition, and quality. At best, I find them quite bland and very generic. Why don't you try spicing things up?

... after all, none of us is really qualified as humans.
~astrazeneca:iconastrazeneca: Apr 27, 2007, 2:29:43 PM
Oh I totally agree. I'd rather see a bulky camera than some silver tiny thing. When I see a person with a larger camera they seem more serious about photography.

It's funny how much I prefer a bulky camera over something slim and small when it comes to self-portraits.

I'm a sucker for self portraits with a camera.
